In Pursuit of Theatre 

“In Pursuit of Theater” is a video series designed for Youtube. It focuses on current and traditional theater practices in the cities of Kars, Erzurum, Van and Tunceli. Inspired by genres such as visual anthropology and ethnographic film, these videos bring a new aesthetic approach to travel Vlog format.

For the content that is prepared separately for each city, a collaboration is made with a theater writer, researcher or academician living in that city. Duygu Çelik in Tunceli, Elif Candan in Erzurum, Emre Yalçın in Kars and Cem Düzova in Van are the consultants of the project.

With the guidance of them, Nadir Sönmez meets theater professionals, researchers, narrators, students and performers from all disciplines. He films interviews, rehearsals and stage performances. He also displays regional traditions and religious rituals that he observes to have a performative aspect in the city.

The videos function as an initial reference for academic research and as an archive of cultural life. They provide information to those interested in current theater practices and cultural heritage in those cities.“
