Nadir Sönmez is an actor, writer, director and interdisciplinary artist, based in İstanbul. He creates theatre, video and film projects.

Sexual politics, masculinities, gay culture, queer activism, porn studies and visual anthropology inspire his works.

He had a French baccalaureate from Galatasaray High School. He studied theatre at Paris III Sorbonne Nouvelle University. He had an MA on theatre from Istanbul Kadir Has University.

 

He is actor, writer and director of the plays “Peki” (2017 - Pera Museum, 2021 - Sabancı Museum), "Ama" (2019 - Istanbul Fringe Festival, 2021 - Dresden European Festival for Young Stage Directors Festival) and “Les Fils des Hétérosexuels” (2021 - Paris Cité Internationale des Arts). His first feature film “Ama" was released on Mubi.

 

In 2022, he worked with LGBTIQ+ activists from Diyarbarkır for his lecture performance “Diyarbakır.Tourism.Romanticism.Activism”, funded by CultureCIVIC. In 2023, he was selected for International Forum at Berlin Theatertreffen. In 2024, he released his Vlog series "In Pursuit of Theatre" on Youtube. His video "Cruising" premiered at BAK Queer Film Program during Utrecht Pride.

He is founder and artistic director of “Kulampara“, an irregular event series dedicated to stage works dealing with sexuality.
